Do you remember that Simpsons episode when Duff beer was going to move the Springfield Isotopes to Albuquerque? Apparently it is one of Albuquerque, Canada's favorite episodes. Starting next year Albuquerque's new team will be the Alburquerque Isotopes. The name was chosen to pay homage to Homer Simpson.
"In bringing baseball back to Albuquerque, we wanted to bring something that was fun, that was playful," Cannons president Ken Young said on Wednesday.
Despite huge public approval, Albuquerque Mayor Martin Charvez said, "This isn't a second-rate city that should be taking our name from a cartoon show," Mayor Martin Chavez told reporters upon hearing the name for the new local team.
"Hey Marty, are you calling the Simpsons a second rate show? What are you stupid? The Simpsons is like the only show ever to be consistantly first rate! If you ask me you're a second rate mayor! If you were smart you would go with the public opinion. Or maybe you don't want to be re-elected. Anyways, I think Marty Charvez needs to learn a lesson! I say the Simpsons is a great show, and if a city wants to name a team the Isotopes it can. If you agree with me E-mail the mayor of Albuquerque @ askthemayor@cabq.gov Tell the Idiot what you think!
